Rifle Work

Rifles must show up for work with a clean bore or a Cleaning Charge will be applied. The bore itself is very precisely dialed in and any copper or carbon fouling will give a false reading.

The centerline of the raceway is dialed into a fixture in the lathe at two points to within .0001” runout. The receiver face is then single point cut true as well as the lugs. The action threads are then opened up to 1.075×16 2B to ensure everything is cleaned up from the factory. The bolt is then dialed in with the same precision as the action where the back of the lugs, the bolt nose, and the bolt face are single point cut true. Once complete, the bolt and action are tested together to ensure full contact and everything is square. A precision ground recoil lug is required and included with this service.

Including the new extractor & Installed on 700 Bolt. The Remington riveted extractor has always been one of the weaker parts of the great design. By replacing with an m16 style extractor which increases the durability, reliability, and longevity of the Remington 700 bolt.

The action face is precisely drilled to accept a small, hardened index pin to align the recoil lug in the exact same position every time. This is necessary if the barrel is ever going to be removed or replaced, to ensure it sits the same in the stock bedding.

This must be done on Remington 700 actions if they are using AICS style detachable magazines without the binder plate. These magazines allow longer cartridge lengths, but the tip of the bullet rides up under the feed ramp and won’t feed.

Modify 700 actions for Wyatt’s extended box.

Remington 700 action side bolt release, parts included. The 700 triggers with their standard bolt release are notorious for having the bolt release get stuck in the down position. Also, some of the high-end aftermarket triggers are unavailable with a bolt release. This side bolt release fixes both of those issues.

These beefier screws are sometimes desired when using heavier long-range scopes and heavy recoiling rifles because they allow more clamping power than the typical 6-48 screws “as well as resist shearing. Factory base screws are sometimes drilled off-center and out of alinement and opening them up will usually clean them up.

Knob Not Included. Drilled and tapped through the center of the handle with a hardened threaded rod installed for added strength. The outside of the handle is threaded 5/16×24 to fit most popular bolt knobs these days.

The barrel is held in the lathe between a 4 jaw chuck and an outboard spider. The bore itself is dialed in at two points to .0001” runout before any work is done to it. The tenon is cut as well as the threads to class 2A. The natural curvature of the bore is then clocked to the 12 o’clock of the action. The counterbore is then cut for the bolt nose, the chamber is drilled and pre-bored, and then very carefully reamed to headspace.

The last step is to polish the walls of the chamber with 400 grit for smooth extraction while still allowing the brass to “grip” the chamber walls to reduce backpressure during firing.

This is applied when removing the barrel from the action.

Install  and Check Headspace

The muzzle end of the barrel is dialed in the same way as is done for the chamber and a very precise 11 degree target crown is cut.

The muzzle end is dialed in the same way as done for the chamber. This service includes threading of any standard thread pitch. Threads are cut to class 2A to remove excessive slop and allow tight lockup to the shoulder without being too tight which can lead to galling and lockup. An 11-degree target crown is cut as the last step.

No need for shims and unsightly gap to time a muzzle brake. This service includes cutting the muzzle shoulder a little at a time until the muzzle brake times perfectly.

A custom thread protector is machined for a seamless transition to match the rest of the barrel.

Profiled, gas block journal, gas block journal dimpled, and gas port drilled to appropriate size based on rifle configuration for proper gassing.

Lightweight aluminum pillars are used to keep consistent tension on the action screws and prevent any shifting due to environmental conditions. Marine-tex is used to create a mirror image and completely stress-free bedding surface for the action, recoil lug, and bottom metal to rest on to get the most consistency and precision out of the rest of the rifle.

Can be zeroed at any specified distance as well as chronographed for velocity with customer-supplied ammo.

The rifle will be completely disassembled and cleaned and oiled inside and out.

This fee is added to every full custom build and it covers full assembly with Loctite where necessary, function check, test fire for safety, cleaning and oiling, and final inspection.

This rate is for all custom work not specified on the price sheet.
